We explain how to organize posters, stickers, and fluorescent text to reduce color noise that disrupts concentration. If you match colors to neutral tones before throwing away items, distraction will be reduced and the digital screen will also become calmer.

This is a daily space routine that lightens everyday life. Use “Decrease desk color: Turn off visual noise” to build a more wellness-friendly home or desk.
The more color on your desk, the more distracting it becomes. Red stickers, highlighters, and colorful posters are each like little reminders that say ‘look here.’ If you want your minimalist desk to look empty like in the photo, you can start by reducing the color before throwing things away. Neutral tones are a backdrop for focus, not boredom. As fewer colors come into view, it becomes easier for your attention to return to the task.
The pencil case, notebook, and mouse pad are unified in white, gray, beige, and charcoal. Leave only one poster or replace it with a calendar. Move stickers into notebooks and leave only functional items on the desk surface. Whenever you find one color that pops, simply switching to a neutral tone will transform your space. Cleaning up isn't done all at once; even if you replace it once a week, your tone will change in just a month.
The wallpaper should be a solid color or a subtle gradient. Strong colors on icons and notification badges break focus. Leave only ‘one accent color’ and organize the rest as neutral. If you also reduce the colors of browser tabs and Slack channels to within the visible range, the same principles as a physical desk follow. When the screen and desk share the same tone, the entire workspace feels like one piece.
Instead of being completely achromatic, only important things are given color. A note-of-the-day cover, a calendar line, or a bookmark—maintain a point of reference. The rest sets the tone. If there is too much emphasis, it becomes noise again. By color-coding just ‘one thing of the day’, your priorities are visually organized.
Don't change everything at once. For 10 minutes every Friday, remove or replace just one color that stands out from your desk. The tone of your space changes in just one month. When it comes to organization, the goal is not perfection, but a less distracting environment next morning. Combined with a Friday shutdown, you can move on to a lighter desk before the weekend.
